Note: Such mold extensions may be created naturally when the core is not fully enclosed (as in the case of a bust with an open bottom) or by leaving openings in the wall of a lost-wax model. After casting, the hole in the bronze created by the mold extension will also facilitate removal of the core material and . The hole may later be sealed with a metal patch.
