Descriptive Note
-
Text: This stained glass panel depicts the tragic circumstances of Elaine Le Blank of Astolat, a young noblewoman in Arthurian legend who falls in love with Lancelot and is eventually improsioned in a tower on the island of Shallot near Camelot. Elaine gazes away from the viewer, likely referencing a poem written about her by Alfred Lord Tennyson in which the the Lady of Shallot is said to be restricted from looking at the outside world except through a mirror’s reflection.
