Descriptive Note
-
Text: Comprising a yoroi, leather plates, skirt, and helmet, this armor was originally constructed in the early fourteenth century (late Kamakura period) and was later donated to the Kurama Temple (Kyoto, Japan) by the Ashikaga shogunate. The oldest part of the armor is the helmet bowl. Sakai Tadamochi, daimyō (lord) of the Obama fief in Wakasa province and military governor of Kyoto from 1752 to 1756, gained custody of the armor during the late Edo period and commissioned its refurbishment at this time.
