Descriptive Note

  • Text: This large carpet is decorated with an unusual pattern of staggered lobed medallions, interior cloud bands, and an external border of palmettes flanked by forked leaves. It is one of a limited number of Indo-Persian carpets to survive as a pair; its counterpart, though formerly owned by the maharaja of Jaipur, has been held in a private European collection since the 1960s.
