Glossary

Caterpillar

A small, worm-like creature that turns into a butterfly or moth.

Cocoon

A cocoon is like a tiny, magical house that some insects make to change into a new form. Inside the cocoon, they transform from a caterpillar to a moth. It's their cozy space for a big, beautiful change!

Egg

A tiny, round object laid by a female moth on the leaves of plants. It’s like a small, delicate seed that will eventually hatch into a baby moth called a larva.

Habitat

The place where an animal or insect lives, like a forest, field, or garden.

Larva

A baby caterpillar that hatches from a moth egg. It’s like a tiny, squishy worm with a soft body and lots of little legs. Larvae love to eat leaves from plants and spend their time growing bigger and stronger. Eventually, they will grow into an adult caterpillar, spin a cocoon, and transform into an adult moth.

Metamorphosis

A special way that some animals change and grow. It’s like a magical transformation! For example, a caterpillar turning into a beautiful butterfly is a type of metamorphosis.

Portrait

A special kind of picture where someone or something is drawn or painted. It’s like taking a snapshot with art! Portraits can show faces, animals, or even bugs in a detailed and artistic way.

Pupa

A special stage in the life of some insects. It’s when they are wrapped up in a protective cover, like a cocoon or chrysalis, while they change into a different form. Think of it as their quiet time before they become adults.
