Welcome to a Greener Getty

Sustainability Statement
Getty extends our commitment to exhibiting, conserving, and understanding the world’s artistic and cultural heritage to include environmental stewardship. For Getty, a healthy planet is fundamental to our ability to carry out our mission to preserve, learn from, and share our collective heritage. From this understanding, we embrace our responsibility to work towards an accessible and inclusive society and an ecologically healthy planet. Inspired by the international Sustainable Development Goals, Getty is investing in and implementing sustainability actions across our operations and programs, helping build capacity across the cultural sector to tackle sustainability challenges, and harnessing the power of the arts and humanities to reflect on and envision a positive and attainable future.
In March 2026, Getty and a cohort of LA arts institutions announced their joint commitment to climate action through implementing the Bizot Green Protocol, a set of recommendations that offer environmentally sustainable approaches for the long-term care of collections. The group includes Getty, LACMA, MOCA, the Hammer Museum, and Hauser & Wirth. We invite you to learn more about Getty’s climate action practices and read the joint statement.

Our Green Goals at Getty
Getty defines sustainability as uniting and balancing our commitments and actions toward safeguarding cultural heritage, improving planetary health, advancing accessibility and inclusivity, and managing our resources so that present and future generations can thrive and continue to enjoy the natural and cultural heritage under Getty’s stewardship.
We are underway with defining targeted goals and the performance metrics to assess our progress toward our goals, with our new Sustainability Advisory Committee. We look forward to announcing our new goals publicly when this work is completed.
