Senior Leadership

  1. Katherine E. Fleming

    President and CEO

    Katherine E. Fleming assumed her post as president and CEO of the J. Paul Getty Trust on August 1, 2022. An accomplished academic leader and internationally recognized scholar of Mediterranean history, religion, and culture, she served as provost of New York University from 2016 to 2022. She was instrumental in NYU’s development as a research powerhouse and in its emergence as one of the world’s most global institutions, leading NYU’s strategy in Europe.

    She has served as Alexander S. Onassis Professor of Hellenic Culture and Civilization at NYU, and as a long-standing associate professor of history at the Ecole Normale Superieure, Paris. From 2012–2016, she chaired the Board of the University of Piraeus, Greece. An elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, she is also Chevalier in the French Legion of Honor and Commander in the Greek Order of Beneficence.

    Fleming began her career in California, earning her doctorate at UC Berkeley and then teaching at various institutions in Southern California before going to NYU in 1998.

  2. Pierre Ouillet

    Executive VP, Finance & Operations

    Pierre Ouillet is the executive vice president, Finance and Operations at the J. Paul Getty Trust. Bringing extensive expertise and a proven track record in managing complex, global organizations, he leads Getty’s financial and operational strategies, overseeing financial planning, investments, facilities, and administrative functions with a focus on advancing Getty’s financial sustainability, operational excellence, and institutional growth.

    Prior to joining Getty, Ouillet was vice chancellor and chief financial officer at UC San Diego, where he managed a $9 billion budget and led numerous strategic initiatives that strengthened the university’s financial health, expanded its research enterprise, and supported campus growth. Earlier in his career, he served as vice president of Finance, Resources, and Operations at the University of British Columbia (UBC), where he successfully navigated financial challenges during the global financial crisis, creating new revenue streams and generating significant savings. Ouillet also served as vice president of finance for Best Buy International and Best Buy Canada.

    Ouillet holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Maryland, and a Master of Business Administration from INSEAD (European Institute of Business Administration). He is also a Certified General Accountant.

  3. Stephen W. Clark

    Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary to the Board of Trustees

    Stephen W. Clark joined the Trust as vice president and general counsel in April 2008. Clark came to Getty from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), where he was deputy general counsel.

    Clark is president of the International Cultural Property Society and a trustee of the Norton Simon Museum, the Lewis Walpole Library and the Bellosguardo Foundation. He was president of the Museum Association of New York and served as a trustee of the California Museum Association. He participated on several committees of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and has served for many years on the faculty of the American Law Institute’s annual conference Legal Issues of Museum Administration. Clark graduated from Hamilton College and Fordham University School of Law.

  4. Nancy Gibson

    Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer

    Nancy Gibson was promoted to Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer of Getty in June 2024. She oversees those functions that support Getty’s 1,400+ staff, including all aspects of human resources and Getty’s DEAI, engagement and belonging initiatives. Gibson joined Getty in 2014 as the Director of Human Resources.

    She has held human resources leadership roles in public, private and non-profit institutions for over 35 years. Prior to joining Getty, Gibson was the human resources and business services director at Michigan State University for its 500+ employee, state-wide cooperative extension system. Before moving to MSU, she worked for a multi-state insurance company and, in addition to Human Resources, was responsible for Facilities and Risk Management.

    Gibson holds a Master’s in Organizational Administration from Central Michigan University. She is a member of the National Human Resources Association-Los Angeles, being selected as Executive of the Year in 2022. She is also a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, holding their Senior Professional designation, and a member of the Professionals in Human Resources Association.

  5. Katharine Krieger

    Vice President, Chief Investment Officer, and Treasurer

    Katharine “K.C.” Krieger joined Getty as vice president, chief investment officer and treasurer in April 2024. She manages Getty’s $9 billion portfolio and is responsible for asset allocation, investment strategy, portfolio construction, risk management, and investment operations. Prior to joining Getty, Krieger spent 23 years at the Broad Foundations and Family Office, serving as the chief investment officer from 2017 to 2024. She started her career as a consulting associate with Cambridge Associates.

    Krieger is on the board of trustees and co-chair of the finance committee at Marlborough School, an independent school for girls. In addition, Krieger is a member of the investment committees for the Broad Institute, a biomedical research institution, and the James Irvine Foundation, an independent foundation dedicated to supporting low-income workers in California.

    K.C. is a CFA® charterholder and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics magna cum laude from Colby College, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

  6. Mary E. Miller

    Director, The Getty Research Institute

    Mary Miller is director of the Getty Research Institute. A longtime member of the Yale University faculty, she served as Dean of Yale College from 2008–2014 and held many University leadership roles. For both her curatorial and scholarly work on ancient Mexico and the Maya, Dr. Miller has won national recognition including a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Getty Grant. She was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1994.

    Named a Sterling Professor at Yale in 2008, she delivered the Fifty-ninth A. W. Mellon lectures at the National Gallery of Art in 2010 and the Slade Lectures at Cambridge University in 2015. Dr. Miller was invited by UCLA to deliver the 2018–19 Gretchen Taylor Millson Distinguished Lecture, an endowed annual lecture honoring women scholars and feminist concerns. Dr. Miller earned her A.B. from Princeton and her Ph.D. from Yale.

  7. Timothy Potts

    Maria Hummer-Tuttle and Robert Tuttle Director, The J. Paul Getty Museum

    Timothy Potts joined Getty as director of the J. Paul Getty Museum in September 2012. His previous position was director and Marlay Curator of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, from 2008 to 2012, where he was also professorial fellow and director of studies in the history of art at Clare College. Previous to that, he was director of the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas from 1998 to 2007, director of the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, from 1994 to 1998, and a research lecturer and research fellow in ancient art and archaeology at Christ Church, Oxford, from 1984 to 1990. He is a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.

    Born in Sydney, Australia, he holds a B.A. with double first class honors and university medals in archaeology/ancient art and philosophy from the University of Sydney, and a D.Phil. (PhD) in ancient Near Eastern art and archaeology from the University of Oxford. Dr. Potts is the author of numerous publications on ancient art, culture, and history; museum studies; and art history.

  8. Jenn Stringer

    Vice President and Chief Digital Officer

    Jenn Stringer joined Getty in July 2023 as vice president and chief digital officer. She oversees the organization’s IT team and Trust-wide strategic digital initiatives.

    Stringer has led computer, technology, and learning services in libraries and universities for over 35 years. Before joining Getty, she was the associate vice chancellor for IT and chief information officer at UC Berkeley, and previously served as the campus’s deputy chief information officer, assistant vice chancellor for IT, and chief academic technology officer. Stringer was previously the director for academic technology services at New York University and director of educational technology at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    Stringer graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz, with honors in History and completed her Masters in Library and Information Science from San Jose State University. Stringer is a Frye Leadership Institute Fellow and is a past member of the EDUCAUSE Institute of Management Faculty. She currently represents EDUCAUSE on the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) Steering Committee, and is a former Viewpoints Editor for Educause Review.

  9. Kimberly Uyttewaal

    Interim Vice President, Development

    Kimberly Uyttewaal joined the Development team of the J. Paul Getty Trust in 2015. Prior to her appointment as Interim Vice President, Development, she served as the Getty’s Director of Donor Relations. She has a deep background in international cultural policy and higher education. She has worked extensively in France and the U.S. in the sectors of marketing and communications, external relations, and institutional advancement. Prior to her work with the J. Paul Getty Trust, Kim served at arts and higher education institutions including the American Center Paris, the Getty Center for the History of Art and the Humanities, California Polytechnic State University, and CSU Northridge. She has also worked in multimedia and communications in the international corporate sector in Paris.

    Kim earned a bachelor’s degree in history from U.C. Berkeley and a master’s degree in French Studies from NYU.

  10. Joan Weinstein

    Director

    Joan Weinstein is director of the Getty Foundation. Since joining Getty, she has directed grant initiatives internationally related to art history, conservation, and museum practice, and is the co-creator of Pacific Standard Time, a Getty-funded initiative of thematically linked exhibitions and programs presented by cultural institutions across Southern California.

    Throughout her career she has been active in professional organizations in the fields of art history, philanthropy, and preservation, and has served on a number of nonprofit boards. Weinstein began her career teaching art history at the University of Pittsburgh and is the author of several books and numerous articles on the history of modern art in Weimar Germany. She holds a PhD in the history of art from the University of California, Los Angeles, and studied at the Phillips-Universität Marburg in Germany.

  11. Timothy P. Whalen

    John E. and Louise Bryson Director, The Getty Conservation Institute

    Timothy P. Whalen is John E. and Louise Bryson Director of the Getty Conservation Institute. His professional association with Getty dates to 1983, when he was appointed assistant director of the Getty Center for the History of Art and the Humanities (now Getty Research Institute) and then associate director of the Getty Building Program, which oversaw the development of the Getty Center campus.

    In 1991, he became senior program officer in the Getty Grant Program (now Getty Foundation) overseeing art and architectural conservation grantmaking activities. In December 1998, he was appointed director of the Getty Conservation Institute.

    Whalen was a trustee and Board Chair of the US National Trust for Historic Preservation. He is a member of the international advisory board for the Courtauld Institute of Art's MA in Conservation of Wall Paintings program, and a former member of the United States National Commission to UNESCO. He was a Loeb Fellow in Environmental Design at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. A California native, he holds a BA in art history as well as an MA in museum studies and art history from the University of Southern California.

  12. Desiree Alcalde Zenowich

    Interim Vice President, Communications

    Desirée Alcalde Zenowich joined Getty in 2007. Before she was appointed Interim Vice President, Communications in February 2024, she served as Assistant Director of News and Media Relations, Communications Manager, and Senior Communications Specialist at Getty, where she developed strategic communication plans, led media relations efforts, and managed high-profile campaigns for exhibitions and public programs.

    Prior to joining Getty, Desirée worked in private sector PR for non-profits and A-list talent in the entertainment industry. A Southern California native, she holds a BA in communications and art history from University of California, Santa Barbara, and an MA in communication management from the University of Southern California.
