Challenge: Let’s Design a Bug Paradise!

Jordan: Hey there fellow entomologist, Jordan here, today let's become architects and design a cozy home for a Green Bird Grasshopper.

To get started, we need to think about what a grasshopper needs to be happy and healthy. They usually live in open areas such as fields, meadows, and grasslands. They're also herbivores, so they enjoy a variety of different plants, including grass, stems, leaves, and flowers.

So, knowing all this, let's design a bug's paradise. Using paper, color pencils, and markers. Let's draw our grasshopper’s home. To keep our bug happy and healthy, they'll need a cozy space to live and food to keep them fed. Let's draw some grass here for them to hide in, a branch for them to rest on, flowers and leaves for food, and some water to drink. Don't forget to label everything and color everything in.

Now let's bring our drawing to life with some colorful paper, scissors, tape, glue, and markers. Let's first make our habitat home by making a triangle diorama. Fold one edge of the paper to the other side until it makes a perfect triangle. Then cut off the excess. Orient the paper so the creases show an X, and then cut along one side of the creases to the middle. You'll then fold it down like this and tape or glue it down.

Now let's create the things in our bug home that we identified in our drawing. Let's make a bowl of water, some leaves, some flowers, a branch, and some grass. Oh, and don't forget to make our bug friend the grasshopper. Once we have created those, we can now glue and tape them onto our new home and complete our bug paradise.
