Museum Lecture Hall

Anne-Lise Desmas, curator and department head of sculpture and decorative arts, presents an in-depth study of this extraordinary work by one of the greatest sculptors of all time, which the Getty acquired in 2014. She explores how Rodin created, interpreted, and produced this atypical composition, and examines the unique character of Karl Wittgenstein, the wealthy industrialist who commissioned the work for his Viennese home.
