Ordering and Reproducing Images

Thank you for your interest in obtaining images from the collection of the J. Paul Getty Museum.

Getty makes available, under Creative Commons Zero (CC0), all available digital images to which Getty holds the rights or that are in the public domain to be used for any purpose. No permission or fee is required. For more information on discovering unrestricted, high-resolution digital images available for free download, please review Getty’s Open Content Program and Frequently Asked Questions.

Requests for all other collection images must be made in writing, and the Museum will only consider requests to use or reproduce images of objects in its collection for scholarly, educational, or non-commercial purposes. Each request is separately considered, and permission is granted on a case-by-case basis at the sole discretion of the Museum. Fees apply depending on the type and nature of the intended use.

Note that images of copyrighted works from the Museum collection may not be reproduced as display prints for personal use due to copyright restrictions.

Requests for permission to use or reproduce Museum images must be submitted online via the order forms linked at the bottom of this page. Please read all directions before submitting your request.

All requests for images and permission to reproduce are subject to approval. If fees apply, you will also be invoiced, and pre-payment is required.

Payment in full is due in advance of all media deliveries and must be made in U.S. dollars. Accepted forms of payment include credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express only), wire transfers, and checks drawn from U.S. banks. Payment must be received within 6 weeks from invoice for your order to be fulfilled promptly.

RUSH FEE - Double total fees. If new photography is not required, rush orders may be accommodated for requests of 5 images or less. Media will be sent within one week of receipt of payment.

Please allow up to 2 weeks for initial processing. Thereafter, once the payment has been received, please allow an additional 1-2 weeks for the images to be sent to you (or, up to 2 months if new photography is required). Large and complex orders are subject to approval and will take longer.

In order to proceed to the request form, the applicant must first agree that this permission, if granted, shall be subject to the terms of use accessed via the links below. Read and/or print out the terms of use applicable to your request.

The applicant further agrees:

• to promptly pay all charges connected with this request
• to supply one (1) gratis copy of the publication, if any, to Rights and Reproductions, Registrar's Office, the J. Paul Getty Museum.

Agreement to the Terms of Use is required. Please select the Terms based on your intended use:

• Reproduction in Print or Digital Media

• Study, Reference, or Lecture Only (no reproduction without further permission from the Getty Museum)
