Recommendation Concerning the Most Effective Means of Rendering Museums Accessible to Everyone (1960)

UNESCO

This Recommendation focuses on museum education and access for the public, particularly for school children and working people. It calls on museums to serve as intellectual and cultural centers and makes recommendations regarding the physical and intellectual accessibility of museums, including hours of operation, admission charges, and interpretation of material for the visiting public. The document recommends cooperation with schools and other educational organizations and the creation of education departments within the institutional structure to further the educational mission of the museum.
