About

Goal

The Getty Open Data and APIs initiative contributes to international efforts to connect art and heritage data—information and images about art, archives, architecture, and more—across institutions in order to advance knowledge of human cultures and history.

As part of this work, Getty’s digital staff collaborates with peers around the world to develop and refine digital standards, best practices, and documentation for cultural heritage data.

Outcomes

  • Alignment of Getty data to international standards.
  • Implementation of a Getty data infrastructure to facilitate linkages within and across Getty resources.
  • Integration with OpenRefine for bridging Getty collections internally and with others around the world.
  • Release of Getty’s Linked Open Data via APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) to enable access and use.
  • Redesigned web interfaces for the Getty collections.
