JOAN Los Angeles, Downtown LA
Curatorial Internship
JOAN’s Getty Marrow Curatorial Intern will work closely with Executive Director and Chief Curator Suzy Halajian and Assistant Curator Nahui Garcia on the research, conceptualization, and production of a newly commissioned solo exhibition by Los Angeles–based Iraqi artist Ali Eyal. This presentation, opening in Fall 2026 at JOAN, will feature newly commissioned, site-specific installations, and a series of public programs.
Eyal’s multidisciplinary practice spans painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, and performance. Deeply informed by his experience growing up during the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq, his work explores memory, displacement, and loss through poetic and fragmented visual forms. His practice has been presented internationally and is shaped by years of research into the politics of representation, storytelling, and the instability of images in the wake of conflict. Through shifting narratives and recurring motifs—such as absent figures, domestic objects, and traces of everyday life—Eyal investigates how personal and collective histories endure amid erasure and war.
The Curatorial Intern will assist in all aspects of exhibition research and production, including artist correspondence, fabrication and installation planning, and development of related public programs. The intern will also contribute to JOAN’s communications, including drafting exhibition materials and supporting social media and outreach efforts. The position offers direct insight into the curatorial process within a small, artist-centered nonprofit organization and the opportunity to engage deeply with a major new commission.
Work Hours: This is a full-time position (37 hours per week) based at JOAN, located in the Bendix Building in Downtown Los Angeles. On-site work is Thursday through Saturday, 11 am–6pm, with Tuesday and Wednesdays (8 hrs/day) dedicated to remote work.
Résumé, cover letter, and 1 letter of recommendation. Contact: Suzy Halajian / email: us@joanlosangeles.org / phone: 310-500-7133.

UCLA Film and Television Archive, Westwood
Collections and Research Internship
The Getty Marrow Collections and Research Intern will help curate an unprocessed collection of rare American network and syndicated television broadcasts circa 1950-1975. The intern will primarily focus on inspecting 16mm film and developing curriculum and research-related resources. This position is 36 hours a week for 10 weeks, with work hours from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
The prolific nature of primetime television programming in the United States during the three-network era (ABC, CBS, NBC) is only partially preserved within cultural heritage institutions. UCLA Film & Television Archive actively collects rare broadcasts from this era in the hope of filling gaps in cultural history via programming that illuminates the time and place in which it was created.
In recent years, core broadcast studies have been reevaluated across academia, with a special emphasis on ensuring that the untold contributions of marginalized people are included in media histories and that unjust representations in narrative works are revealed and studied. UCLA’s unprocessed television collection holdings include undiscovered materials requiring in-depth metadata documentation and digitization to facilitate public access and discourse to unveil these hidden histories. The collection includes over 200 reels of 16mm film that need to be organized for accessioning and digitization–moving from vault shelf storage to active use in academic research and classroom instruction at UCLA and beyond.
To apply, please submit a resume, cover letter and writing sample, and complete an application through the UCLA Library Student Jobs website: https://www.library.ucla.edu/about/student-opportunities. The writing sample should be a research paper demonstrating a critical analysis of any topic relating to film, television and/or media production focusing on history, production, theory, and/or visual style; the paper may include archival research, but this is not a requirement.
Qualified candidates should demonstrate an interest in moving image archival collections, conservation and preservation, and research related to film and television history, in particular network television produced during the 1950s-1970s.
Staci Hogsett, Head of Collection Services, UCLA Film & Television Archive, shogsett@cinema.ucla.edu, 661-383-2155.
