Earth Day at the Getty Center will be celebrated with events throughout April, with free public programs for all ages that include art talks, garden tours, and an outdoor meditation session with a tree.
These events use the knowledge of arts and humanities to encourage environmental sustainability, inspiring public engagement around biodiversity during an annual global movement dedicated to raising awareness and taking action to protect the planet.
Art and Sustainability themed gallery discussions will take place in connection with Getty’s drawing exhibitions currently on view, Exploring the Alps and A Brush with Nature: Romantic Landscape Drawings. Tours of the Robert Irwin Central Garden will focus on a sensorial connection with nature, viewing the garden as living art, and learning about California native wildflowers. Visitors will have the opportunity to meditate with a tree in Resonant Exchange, featuring a unique immersive experience using a multi-speaker sound installation. A talk with artist Aroussiak Gabrielian will explore ethical models for living from her forthcoming book and design series, Near-Extinction Rituals. For a complete list of programs with event dates and times, please visit Getty’s Earth Day series page.
