In this episode of Becoming Artsy, Jessie begins her journey by meeting with an artist attempting to grow mouse mammary glands in a lab (yes, you read that right).

Artist and professor Oron Catts works with living biological tissue as an art form, and Jessie visited him to learn about his installation, The Use of Life (in Relation to the Industry of Men), which was featured in Emergence: Art from Life, an exhibition at the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center as part of PST ART: Art & Science Collide.

In their installation, Catts and collaborator Ionat Zurr explore how humans have used animal products throughout history. They highlight the recent endeavors of growing animal meat and milk in science laboratories with a unique centerpiece, which sparks an exciting revelation for Jessie on how to appreciate and understand art exhibitions, especially those that feel a little more puzzling at first glance.
