The J. Paul Getty Trust has appointed Amanda Hicks as Vice President, Communications and Community Engagement. Ms. Hicks is currently the Director of Communications and Public Affairs at The Museum of Modern Art, New York (MoMA), a position she has held since 2018.

Reporting to Getty President and CEO Katherine E. Fleming, Ms. Hicks will be responsible for communicating Getty’s institutional vision locally and around the world while working collaboratively with its four programs to develop Trust-wide communications strategies and benchmarks. She will begin at Getty on January 5, 2026.

“I am looking forward to welcoming Amanda’s expertise as Getty prepares to increase its global visibility and embark on ambitious projects at home and abroad,” says Dr. Fleming. “She brings a wealth of knowledge from her time at MoMA, and her international work will be critical to Getty in the coming years.”

At MoMA, Ms. Hicks leads and oversees the execution of communications strategy for all facets of the organization, including programming and exhibitions, institutional news, outreach to the New York City community, and reputational issues management. Prior to joining MoMA, she was the Executive Director of Communications at the Art Institute of Chicago. She previously served as a Public Diplomacy Foreign Service Officer in the U.S. State Department, working in Washington, DC, the Eastern Caribbean, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Qatar, and at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

"It's a true privilege to join Getty at this exciting moment. The Trust's mission is profoundly vital—art has a unique power to connect people, spark dialogue, and inspire understanding across cultures,” said Ms. Hicks. “I look forward to working with the talented team to deepen Getty’s community connections, make its vast resources and collections even more accessible, and tell the extraordinary stories that reside here. My focus will be on strengthening the public's understanding of Getty as an active, responsive, and valued resource for Los Angeles and the world."

Ms. Hicks is a returned Peace Corps volunteer with three years of service in Central Africa and she holds an M.A. in Art History from the University of Oregon and a B.A. in Government from the University of Notre Dame.
