Sounds of LA: Celebrating the Jazz Legacy of Altadena is a weekend lineup of jazz concerts, part of Getty’s annual Sounds of LA series.

Sounds of LA explores our city's varied musical geography, celebrating the work of masters as well as up-and-coming musicians from around the globe. This year, the concerts wish to honor and celebrate an arts community with an impactful cultural history that has been devastated by the Los Angeles wildfires.

Join us for reflection, healing, and celebration as we honor the rich musical legacy of Altadena. In the 1960s, driven by discriminatory housing laws, Black families moved to Altadena, where they cultivated a vibrant jazz scene that became a defining part of the community’s cultural fabric. Over six decades later, this legacy continues to shape jazz in Los Angeles and beyond.

Experience the brilliance of this unique musical heritage as we showcase Altadena’s celebrated jazz artists, whose innovative work continues to push boundaries and inspire generations.
