In honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day, Getty hosts its second annual family event to learn about Southern California's vibrant Native American cultures. There will be activities sharing traditional and contemporary Indigenous perspectives and narratives.
This event complements the launch of the Digital Florentine Codex.

Taste Traditional Mesoamerican Flavors
Enjoy a tasting menu selected by culinary anthropologist Claudia Serrato featuring cacao, chia seeds, maíz, and amaranth, and take a recipe card to try at home!
Block Stamp Workshop Led by Meztli Projects
Learn about Mexica lifeways using linocut stamps and create your own Codex inspired by the Florentine Codex.
Native California Plants
Navigate the Getty Center gardens using a plant guide illustrated by Weshoyot Alvitre and learn about preserving and protecting white sage (Latin: Salvia apiana; Tongva: Kasili).
Musical Performances
Carmina Escobar, Micaela Tobin and Jacqueline Wilson perform artist Raven Chacon's score For Zitkála Šá (2017–2020), written for and dedicated to Indigenous female composers and musicians. Each score visualizes the individual dedicatee's style of music, sounds, and instruments. Performances will occur throughout the afternoon.
