About

Goal

MOSAIKON aims to build knowledge and skills, develop replicable models of conservation best practice, strengthen professional networks, and promote the sharing of information on the care of mosaics, both at archaeological sites and in museums and storage throughout the Mediterranean region.

Outcomes

  • Approximately 235 mosaic conservation specialists from 17 countries have received training and can share their knowledge with the next generation.

  • New professional networks have formed across the Mediterranean region and internationally.

  • Several national governments have offered substantial investments and long-term commitments to safeguarding the archaeological heritage of their countries and regions.

  • The Getty Foundation has awarded 27 grants totaling more than $7.5 million for training projects, conferences, workshops, publications, and translations of key conservation texts into Arabic.
