Strengthening the Professional Network

The International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics (ICCM) is the leading professional organization dedicated to the conservation of archaeological mosaics. ICCM has brought the conservation of mosaics to the attention of a wider audience of art historians, archaeologists, conservators, and other scholars. It also has contributed significantly to the quality and quantity of literature produced on mosaic conservation. In addition to its publications, ICCM serves as the principal forum for the exchange of information regarding mosaics conservation through its network of professionals and an expanding website.

MOSAIKON has worked to strengthen ICCM through grants from the Getty Foundation. This funding has enabled ICCM to update its membership database and create an improved website ( and newsletter, both of which are produced in French, Arabic, and English.

In addition, ICCM received grants from the Getty Foundation to allow mosaics conservation professionals, mainly from North Africa and the Middle East, to attend the organization's triennial conferences. The 2014 ICCM conference includes a specialized workshop for alumni of MOSAIKON site management training programs, which will reinforce skills and further build the network. The ICCM grants also included ongoing support for the MOSAIKON regional coordinator.
