Component Four: Case Studies
Four case studies of specific sites are being developed to analyze and illustrate how practitioners assess and take into consideration values in their management activities. The cases aim to answer the following questions:

  • How are the values associated with the site understood and articulated?
  • How are these values taken into account in the site's management policies and strategies?
  • How do management decisions and actions on site affect the values?

The four sites examined were Grosse Île and the Irish Memorial National Historic Site in Quebec, Canada; Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico, USA; Port Arthur Historic Site, Tasmania, Australia; and, Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site, United Kingdom. The case study project was a collaboration of the Getty Conservation Institute with the Australian Heritage Commission, English Heritage, Parks Canada, and the U.S. National Park Service.
