Modern Architecture

In 2013, the GCI launched its Conserving Modern Architecture Initiative, a concerted effort to advance the conservation of modern architecture through research, publications, model projects, and training activities. With this initiative, the GCI is working to develop practical conservation measures that address the challenges raised by the innovative construction materials and methods that typify the era.

This initiative complements the GCI's work in the conservation of modern and contemporary art, as well the Getty Foundation's Keeping It Modern conservation grant program and the growing collection of twentieth-century architectural materials held in the Getty Research Institute's Architecture and Design Collection.

Current projects include:

Conserving Modern Architecture Initiative
Eames House Conservation Project
Salk Institute Conservation Project
