How to Contribute

Getty Research Portal

We are upgrading the infrastructure of the Getty Research Portal, and new contributions are paused while we implement a new content management system. The updated system is expected to launch in early 2027, and we anticipate resuming acceptance of new contributions at that time.

Guidelines for Contributions

Scope

The Portal aggregates records for published art history texts, including rare books and related literature. Texts must be either in the public domain or offered under terms of use that support research and scholarship.

Structure

Contributed records must be provided in one of the following formats:

  • MARC
  • MODS
  • Dublin Core
  • CSV

Minimum required metadata fields include:

  • Title
  • Unique identifier
  • Link to the digitized text

Linked texts

Each record must include one or more fully formed hyperlinks to a high-quality, fully digitized text that

  • is freely available (not password-protected or IP-restricted)
  • is downloadable from the contributor’s website
  • ideally supports full-text search

Encoding

Please ensure records are exported in Unicode (UTF-8) format.

Methods of delivery

Acceptable methods for transmitting contributions include

  • email attachment
  • File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
  • Open Archives Initiative (OAI) harvest
