The Getty Museum publishes print and digital publications that explore visual art, from antiquity to the present day, in all its historical and thematic complexities. Our books focus on the art presented in our exhibitions and collections; our art historical research and conservation work; broad issues in museology and arts education; and related fields of interest. We seek to engage a range of audiences, from the general to the specialized and scholarly, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of the visual arts.

The Getty Conservation Institute works internationally to advance conservation practice in the visual arts—objects, collections, architecture, and sites. We serve the global conservation profession by documenting and disseminating its work, and publishing original research, training materials, and reports of conservation projects and meetings. We also seek to maintain and strengthen the standing of the conservation profession by supporting and publishing the work of early-career scholars and practitioners; giving students who are considering a career in the field access to a wealth of publications; publishing texts that make available the thinking and writing that has formed the intellectual basis of the field; and informing interested non-specialists about the challenges, satisfactions, and values of conservation.

The Getty Research Institute publishes scholarship that cultivates an inclusive, nuanced, and global understanding of art and its histories, drawing on archival research. Projects should embrace and, where possible, include multiple perspectives, thereby promoting inclusivity and a richer understanding of art and history. They should offer new approaches to and interpretations of historical collections, thereby complicating and unpacking canonical understandings of familiar objects. The Getty Research Institute additionally publishes books that complement and support its exhibitions and research programs; these books are developed in collaboration with its staff.
