Junto a la curadora Julieta Pestarino, este tour se adentrará en el rico entramado de diálogos culturales y artísticos que han dado forma a la historia de la fotografía mexicana. El recorrido profundizará en algunos ejemplos en particular, así como en ciertas publicaciones clave mediante las cuales circularon muchas de estas fotografías, imágenes que registran los instantes y las revelaciones de un siglo extraordinario de creatividad mexicana.

Julieta Pestarino
Assistant Curator
Julieta joined the Department of Photographs in 2024. She is an anthropologist and curator specializing in Latin American photography with a PhD in history and theory of arts from the University of Buenos Aires. Previously she was a graduate intern in the Curatorial Department (Latin American Art) of the Getty Research Institute, a fellow of the Bauhaus Lab Global Modernism Studies and the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut in Berlin, and a postdoctoral researcher in the 4A_Lab program of the Kunsthistorisches Institut/Max Plank Institut in Florence. She authored the book Prácticas modernas: Fotografía y grupalidad en La Carpeta de los Diez (2023), and curated the exhibitions Julia Chambi, la primera fotógrafa andino-peruana (Peru, 2024), and Lo múltiple y lo único. Fotografía en expansion (Argentina, 2022), among others.

Join your tour a few minutes before its scheduled start time at the Information Desk, where our Visitor Services colleagues will direct you to the guide leading the tour. Groups are provided with Assistive Listening Devices (ALD), which amplify the guide's voice in busy galleries.
What to expect
Our guides lead interactive tours that are different each time. While they share their unique perspective and knowledge about the collections and exhibitions, we encourage you to make the tour your own by sharing observations and asking questions. We want to hear what you think!
This tour is predominantly indoors, with brief moments outside. There are a few specific stops for active engagement with individual artworks. Although benches are available in many galleries, seating may or may not be available depending on the route chosen by your guide.

Wheelchairs are available for free rental on a first-come, first-served basis at the Lower Tram Station above the parking structure and at the Coat Check Room in the Museum Entrance Hall.
