Provenance Research

The Project for the Study of Collecting and Provenance (PSCP) serves to align the Getty Research Institute databases, its collections, and the expertise of its staff with the work of researchers interested in the history of collecting, provenance, and display. The project supports the study of art collecting by broadening accessibility of resources to researchers and establishing links with research institutions around the world, and by hosting and participating in conferences, workshops, and scholarly meetings. The project includes the Getty Provenance Index Databases and some 25,000 paper files on individual collectors, and a wide range of related materials.

The Research Library at the Getty Research Institute is one of the richest resources in the world for the study of provenance and the history of western European art collecting. The Research Library's holdings include an extensive collection of dealer and auction catalogs, original primary materials from special collections, the Photo Study Collection, microfiche and microfilm, and the collectors files. All library resources are listed in the Research Library Catalog.
