Component Three: Assessing the Values of Heritage
In March 2000, a small group of scholars representing various disciplines met to consider the tools available for assessing the values of heritage. The meeting's aim was to move from research to the actual practice of conservation planning and decisionmaking.
The workshop discussed the assessment methodologies and tools used in various disciplines, and their suitability for use in measuring heritage and economic values. Notions such as sustainability, cultural capital, and resolution of conflicts among values were discussed and debated.
One of the main recommendations of the workshop was the development and publication of case studies focused on the role of values in heritage management and conservation.
