Each fall, a classical tragedy or comedy is performed in the Getty Villa’s dramatic Outdoor Classical Theater. This unique venue is modeled after ancient Greek and Roman prototypes, continuing an 8,000-year-old architectural tradition. Working with local and nationally acclaimed theater companies, this series ambitiously reimagines and revives the myths and plays of antiquity, from the most venerated to long-overlooked works. These bold and celebrated productions re-tell ancient human stories that often parallel our contemporary experiences.
