About

Goal

This project remodels the infrastructure of the Getty Provenance Index ®—a pioneering digital humanities tool created over 30 years ago—to adapt to significant advances in digital technology. This overhaul not only improves access to the databases, but also supports new research demands in the field, allowing for explorations into the lineage, social life, and geographic mobility of individual works of art. This project makes a major contribution to the fields of art provenance, collection, and market research.
