About

Goal

The LA Arts Community Relief Fund provided critical support to artists and art workers from all disciplines impacted by the devasting Los Angeles fires of January 2025. Led by Getty, the Fund was created by a coalition of local and national supporters and administered by the Center for Cultural Innovation, a longstanding intermediary providing funding, advocacy, and research support on behalf of individuals in the arts.

Approach

A week after fires across Los Angeles County caused unprecedented community destruction, a coalition of major local arts institutions along with national and international supporters launched the LA Arts Community Fire Relief Fund. The Fund was designed specifically to assist artists and art workers of all disciplines whose residences and/or studios have been affected by the Eaton and Palisades fires and provide support as rapidly as possible. Launched with $12 million, the Fund provided one-time support of up to $10,000 to reach the hundreds of individuals in Los Angeles’ creative economy whose lives have been upended. Getty and CCI also continued to welcome donations.

In the end, 1,689 artists and arts workers received $16.4 million in support. The vast majority of those awarded support received the full $10,000, including all of those who lost a home, with or without insurance, and all artists who lost an uninsured studio or workspace. Among the recipients, 85% applied as artists and 15% as arts workers, with 78% of the group impacted by the Eaton fire and 22% by the Palisades fire.
