About

Goal

Alta / A Human Atlas of a City of Angels seeks to create a deeper narrative about social change in Los Angeles through portraits, ancestral DNA and oral histories from one hundred of the city’s changemakers. It reveals how their lives intersect with the city—past, present and future—creating a legacy work that documents and conserves a “human atlas” about the city, its people, and communities.

Outcomes

  • A limited-edition, two-volume book, Alta / A Human Atlas of a City of Angels
  • Mobile app and website
  • Weekly podcast, Intersections: Los Angeles
  • The exhibition, Alta / A Human Atlas of a City of Angels, presented at the Los Angeles Public Library, Central Library, First Floor Galleries in conjunction with PST ART: Art & Science Collide, January–April 2025
  • A pilot project with Exponential Destiny, The Human Atlas Metaverse, that resulted in the development of 9 immersive learning experiences and curriculum for the workshop, "Introduction to Social Change Makers,” outreach to 10 LAUSD schools, conferences, and events, which engaged over 900 students, teachers, and administrators and others
