About

Goal

Academic Outreach & Engagement embraces its role as a convener of academic communities. We activate this commitment through resources, training, events, programs, workshops, internships, and fellowships for faculty and students—undergraduate through graduate. Through these efforts, we also create a cross-roads for our academic community, bringing students, scholars, and educators together from across the state and around the world.

Getty Graduate Symposium
Each year the Getty Research Institute hosts the Getty Graduate Symposium, a showcase for cutting-edge scholarly work by emerging scholars from art history graduate programs across California. Each of our 9 partner schools nominates a student and faculty pair from their department: faculty introduce the student presenters, and dynamic discussion sessions compliment the presentations and create an opportunity for audiences—in person and virtual—to engage in the conversations they generate.

Curriculum Workshops for Higher Ed
These virtual workshops are designed to support those teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. They aim to support curriculum development by activating the in-depth research of primary sources developed through research projects and initiatives at the Getty Research Institute.
