“Sometimes a window (or doorway) frames a view just so, turning it into a work of art.”
Since February 1, we’ve shared that call to action with readers of Get Inspired—and in return, they’ve shared captivating photographs they’ve taken all around the world.
As a thank you, we’ve collected several of our favorite submissions from 2024.

“My apartment has views over the Neva River to some of the most famous landmarks and palaces in the city. I took this particular photo in the early afternoon of January 1, when the temperature was -27° C [-16.6° F]. The cold always creates unusual light. The softness of the low sunlight and the cold air created this painterly effect.”

“I was standing at the corner of West 52nd Street in Manhattan, when a delivery van stopped at the light and framed some advertising in front of me. I managed to get a quick shot with my Nikon before the light turned and the van pulled away.”

“Deconstructive architectural elements of Frank Gehry’s iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall as viewed through a window of the upper-level exhibition gallery of the Broad Museum, another of Los Angeles’s architectural marvels.”

“This image was taken from a window in Banff, Alberta, Canada at the Fairmount Hotel. Lucky for us that we were upgraded to a suite with this beautiful view.”

“I was waiting my turn to visit the upstairs of a Julia Morgan-designed building in the Grand Canyon, and noticed that light was pouring in through the windows. I gazed out and saw this stunning landscape.”

“This framed view in Guayaquil, Ecuador, is looking in, not out, making it feel slightly voyeuristic. But the door was open, inviting passersby to view. I captured this on an iPhone 5 on an overcast day, which gave it a muted tone.”

“Oftentimes we look out of windows, but sometimes we look inside and dream about what is awaiting us, like in this chocolate store in Paris that created chocolates for Marie Antoinette.”

“My husband Alfonso and I visited the Temple of Isis in November 2017 and were overwhelmed by the beauty of the archeological site and the wonderful vistas of the Nile.
“During our journey through Egypt, I had the pervasive sensation that something was wrong. Our lives changed forever when in February 2018, he was diagnosed with stage 4 Waldenström macroglobulinemia, a rare type of blood cancer.
“We learned so much about love and commitment in the difficult four years that followed. This ancient window of the Temple of Isis reminds me of three perennial lessons. Like the river, life is always in flux. Like the shadows, time is always transitory. Like the temple itself, love endures.”

“Rush hour in Venice. Taken with a Google Pixel 6 Android smart phone. Through the window of the door to the Palazzo Barocci Hotel.”

“I took this shot in Abu Dhabi, through a doorway. Note how the door frame curves at the top to echo the domes outside.”

“When I travel, I often take some of my best photographs from buses, taxis, and boats—probably because I’m a somewhat lazy and shy photographer. So, hiding behind windows is perfect for me. This photo was taken with my Nikon D3100 during a cruise on the Yangtze River.”

“This image was taken in Hawaii (Big Island). The view is through a window on the bridge over the river that flows from Akaka Falls into the ocean at Kolekole Beach Park.”
