The J. Paul Getty Trust has appointed Machelle Vieux as Vice President, Facilities Operations and Capital Planning.

Ms. Vieux has served as Associate Vice President of Facilities Services at the University of Chicago since 2023. She will begin at Getty on January 5, 2026.

Reporting to Executive Vice President, Finance and Operations, the role provides strategic leadership in the planning, development, maintenance, utilization, and stewardship of Getty’s physical infrastructure. Vieux will oversee the institution’s Engineering (Building Operations and Energy Management), Capital Program and Campus Planning, and Grounds and Landscape Architecture departments, leading a team of approximately 175 full-time employees.

“Getty will benefit greatly from Machelle’s experience as we prepare for a number of important modernization projects at both of our campuses,” said Pierre Ouillet, executive vice president, Finance and Operations, at Getty. “Her collaborative leadership, commitment to sustainability, and dedication to building inclusive teams will serve Getty well in the years to come.”

Machelle brings over three decades of leadership experience in facilities management, capital project delivery, and strategic campus planning. At the University of Chicago, she led a team of 250 and oversaw a $1.2 billion capital project portfolio and a $135 million operating budget. Her career spans roles with the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, County of San Luis Obispo, and the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps, where she retired with the rank of Commander.

“I am thrilled to join the Getty community and deeply honored to serve as the Assistant Vice President of Facilities Operations and Capital Planning,” said Vieux. “Getty’s stunning and majestic campuses have been carefully maintained by dedicated stewards committed to the mission. I look forward to building on the strong foundation already in place and collaborating with colleagues to advance the future of the Getty.”

Machelle is a registered Professional Engineer and holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, Norman.
