Enjoy a special evening at the Getty Villa with musicians, poets, DJs, visual artists, dancers, and more, who are inspired by Iran’s rich culture and history. This monthly event series seamlessly blends the past with the present for a unique immersion into the Iranian arts. Cap the night with a featured performance in the outdoor theater.

Persia After Hours complements the exhibition Persia: Ancient Iran and the Classical World, on view through August 8, 2022. The Villa’s galleries will be open during the events. Free; food and drinks available for purchase.

This series is presented in collaboration with Farhang Foundation and UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music. The June event is also in collaboration with RAHA International.

An Evening of Poetry, Dance and Ancient Persian Melodies

6:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m.

Harken back to the sounds of ancient Persia as Sholeh Wolpé & André Megerdichian present dance and music set to the poetry of 12th-century Sufi mystic Attar. Enjoy songs by master guitar player Hamed Poursaee and a calligraphy demonstration by Mohtadi Mirak. Mehrdad Arabifard & His Ensemble end the evening with a performance titled "Music of the Mystics: Ancient Melodies of Iran."

World music sensations Azam Ali and Loga Ramin Torkian, of cutting-edge music group NIYAZ, have curated an intimate acoustic performance featuring a collective of extraordinary musicians as well as immersive visuals projected on the facade of the Getty Villa Museum.

DJ set by Omid Walizadeh and guided exhibition tours start at 6:00 p.m. Performance by Azam Ali is at 8:00 p.m. in the outdoor theater.
