The multidimensional projects of the Getty Conservation Institute are carried out by three programmatic departments:

The Collections department focuses on advancing the development of conservation professionals at all stages of their careers and on enhancing the educational infrastructure that supports this learning.

The Buildings and Sites department works with partners internationally to advance conservation practice through the development and implementation of model projects at significant cultural heritage sites around the world.

The Science department addresses unsolved problems, studies the deterioration of materials that comprise works of art and historic buildings, develops analytical methodologies, and advances the research agenda of the conservation field.
