Previewing at the Getty Center, Desert X 2021–The Film goes behind the scenes of Desert X 2021, the recurring, site-specific international art exhibition in Palm Springs, California. Desert X 2021 presented the work of 12 artists, who were invited to explore the desert as both place and idea, and to examine the histories, realities, and possibilities of the Coachella Valley and its many communities. The film takes us inside the artists’ studios in Ghana, Germany, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Colombia, Guatemala, the United Kingdom, and the United States, following their development of creations that engage with the current socio-political climate and speak directly to the Native American Land Back movement, climate change and water rights, histories of feminism, and the urgent issues facing Black lives.
