A significant element of the ancient city of Petra is known as the Great Temple, to the north of the Colonnaded Street. The complex was created in the 1st century AD and redesigned in the following century.

Monitoring and maintenance of the system began immediately after full deployment of MEGA–Jordan.

The Conservation Institute and World Monuments Fund (WMF), through the system developers, have provided ongoing system monitoring and maintenance support, including review of system performance, technical issue resolution, and additional training as necessary. As of late 2014, plans are underway to transfer this responsibility to the Department of Antiquities (DoA).

The intent of the system monitoring and maintenance period has been to provide DoA system administrators with access to reliable technical experts during the transition period who could assist them as they became familiar with the day-to-day system monitoring and maintenance tasks.

System monitoring support was provided primarily remotely, with access to the system at the DoA via a VPN (virtual private network) connection. This allowed development staff to review and resolve errors in all system components. The VPN connection also offered an opportunity to periodically review the state of the system, provide basic database administration support (if required), and ensure that appropriate data back-ups have functioned as expected. It also included periodic on-site system support from local technicians during the monitoring and maintenance period.
