This project drew from the Getty Research Institute’s Association pour la Connaissance de l'histoire de l'Afrique Contemporaine (ACHAC) collection. Through analyses of materials such as photographs, postcards, maps, travel posters, advertisements, and children's games, it offered unique insights into how France displayed, defined, and represented its empire in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
