The J. Paul Getty Trust and the Italian Ministry of Culture issued the following joint statement following a meeting in Rome, Tuesday, January 31, 2006:

“Representatives of the Italian Ministry of Culture and representatives of the J. Paul Getty Trust confirmed that they met today to continue a dialogue regarding a number of objects in the collection of the J. Paul Getty Museum. The representative of the Ministry presented their position, including documents, photographs and other information, regarding the provenance of the objects at issue. The J. Paul Getty Trust representatives agreed to explore the issues raised with Museum officials and the Board of Trustees. The parties agreed to continue discussions in the near future to move the process forward.”
