The main activity of this working group was a workshop held in May-June 2000 at the Pontificia Universidad Católica in Santiago, Chile. The workshop was organized by the Conservation Institute and the Pontificia Universidad Católica, with the collaboration of the Centro Nacional de Restauración y Conservación, Subdirección de Museos (Dirección de Bibliotecas, Archivos y Museos), and the Consejo de Monumentos Nacionales.

The objectives of the working group were as follows:

  • to create a model curriculum that can be adapted to various teaching situations, such as an academic program for conservation students or short-term workshops in emergency preparedness for a variety of audiences (for example, conservators and other museum professionals)
  • to develop teaching materials
  • to create and maintain a network of instructors who will present future training activities in emergency preparedness

A follow-up meeting or workshop was held in Santiago during the first half of 2002.
