Coustou, Nicolas (French sculptor, 1658-1733)

Note: A member of the Coustou family of sculptors, Nicolas was trained in the French Academic tradition and won the first prize in sculpture in 1682, awarding him study in Rome from 1683-1686. He returned to Paris and took over Giradon's studio. He worked extensively at Versailles, Marly, and the Dômes des Invalides as well as on many other projects for Louis XIV.
