Sanders, George (Scottish miniaturist and portraitist, 1774-1846, active in London)
|
Note: Apprenticed in Kinghorn, Scotland to a coach painter, then established himself as a miniaturist, draftsman and illustrator in Edinburgh. He was in London by 1807, working in oils, and became a successful portraitist whose subjects included Lord Byron and Princess Charlotte. He also made watercolors after Dutch and Flemish masters including Rembrandt. He is often confused with George Lethbridge Saunders. |
