Holzer, Jenny (American conceptual artist and sculptor, born 1950)

Note: Studies included general art courses at Duke University, Durham, NC (1968-1970); painting, printmaking, and drawing at the University of Chicago; BFA at Ohio University, Athens (1972). Courses at the Rhode Island School of Design, 1974 entering its MFA program in 1975 and beginning her first work with language, installation, and public art. She moved to New York in 1977. Her first public works were in the form of anonymous posters pasted on walls in Manhattan, these consisted of commercially printed one-line statements such as ‘Abuse of power comes as no surprise.' She has continued to work with language in various contexts and in media including billboards, television, and electronic signs.
