Note: Thin, opaque, vitreous coating that is applied to the surface of a ceramic body by painting, spraying, or dipping, in order to add color, texture, or water resistance to the object. The glaze is applied to the surface of a fired ceramic piece, and then the piece is refired at a temperature that vitrifies the glaze, but is lower than the original firing temperature. Ceramic glazes are usually mixtures of silicates, colorants, and flux.

Chinese (traditional) ..... 一種質薄、不透光的玻璃塗層,以粉刷、噴灑或浸入的方式使用在陶瓷坯體表面,以增進物件的色彩、質地或防水性。過程中先將釉塗在已燒陶片的表面,之後再將陶片以能使釉料轉為玻璃的溫度重燒,不過此溫度要比最先燒陶的溫度低。陶瓷釉通常為矽酸鹽、著色劑和助熔劑的混合物。 
Dutch ..... Dunne, ondoorzichtige, glasachtige laag die op het oppervlak van een keramisch voorwerp wordt aangebracht door schilderen, spuiten of dompelen, om kleur, textuur of waterbestendigheid aan het voorwerp toe te voegen. Het glazuur wordt aangebracht op het oppervlak van een gebakken keramisch stuk, en vervolgens wordt het stuk opnieuw gebakken bij een temperatuur die het glazuur verglaast, maar lager is dan de oorspronkelijke baktemperatuur. Keramisch glazuur is meestal een mengsel van silicaten, kleurstoffen en vloeimiddel. 
Portuguese ..... Revestimento fino, opaco e vítreo que é aplicado à superfície de um corpo cerâmico por pintura, pulverização ou imersão, a fim de adicionar cor, textura ou resistência à água ao objeto. O esmalte é aplicado na superfície de uma peça cerâmica queimada, e então a peça é requeimada a uma temperatura que vitrifica o esmalte, mas é inferior à temperatura original de queima. Esmaltes cerâmicos são geralmente misturas de silicatos, corantes e fundentes.
