Note: Historical bindings the structure of which originatied in Coptic monasteries in Egypt, known to have been made from the 4th to the 11th centuries CE. They feature boards made of wood or pressed papyrus, leather covers, gatherings sewn through the folio usually by chain or kettle stitches without sewing supports, and lined spines with flanges and headbands. They make up the oldest known family of leather bookbindings and represent the ultimate source of all decorated leather bindings.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 這項歷史悠久的裝訂法發源於埃及的科普特修道院（Coptic Monastery），盛行於西元四至十一世紀。特色在於以木板或草紙壓製的紙板，配上皮革封面與配頁，透過縫製方式將書頁以鍊或線來串書，沒有縫製的痕跡，襯裡的書背則有緣邊和束帶。此為皮革裝幀方法中最古老的形式，為各種裝飾皮革裝幀的最初起源。 |
| Dutch ..... Historische boekbanden waarvan de structuur oorspronkelijk afkomstig is uit koptische kloosters in Egypte, die voor zover bekend zijn gemaakt van de 4de tot de 11de eeuw n. Chr. Ze kenmerken zich door borden van hout of geperste papyrus, leren omslagen, katernen die zijn ingenaaid door het folio heen, gewoonlijk met ketting- of ketelsteken zonder bindingen, en gegroefde ruggen met flenzen en kapitalen. Zij vormen de oudste bekende soort leren boekbanden en de uiteindelijke oorsprong van alle versierde leren banden. |
