Note: Ancient forms of writing originating from Asia, dating to the Shang dynasty (ca. 1600-1046 BCE). Chinese calligraphy evolved from pictographs into the many characters that are written today. Early characters or pictographs have been discovered inscribed into pottery or bone dating back over 4000 years ago. There are five main types of Chinese calligraphy: seal script (zhuan-shu); official script know as clerical script (li-shu); block script called regular script or (kai-shu); semi-cursive script called running script (xing-shu); and cursive script known as grass script or (cao-shu).

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Oude schriftvormen uit Azië, met als oorsprong de Shang-dynastie (ca. 1600-1046 v.Chr.). Chinese kalligrafie is ontstaan uit een pictografisch schrift en heeft zich ontwikkeld tot schriftvormen met een groot aantal karakters. Er zijn vroege karakters en pictogrammen aangetroffen op aardewerk en benen voorwerpen van 4000 jaar oud. Er zijn vijf verschillende soorten Chinese kalligrafie: het zegelschrift (zhuanshu), het officiële schrift dat bekendstaat als het klerkenschrift (lishu), het blokschrift dat men standaardschrift noemt (kaishu), het halfcursieve schrift dat men ook lopend schrift noemt (xingshu) en het cursieve schrift dat bekendstaat als grasschrift (caoshu).
