Note: General term for solid or semisolid organic substance usually obtained from plant secretions, but sometimes obtained from insects or synthetically produced. It is soluble in organic solvent but not in water, and is commonly used in varnish, printing ink, and size. It is distinguished from "gum" by not being dissoluble in water. To distinguish between natural and synthetic resins, use the narrower terms "natural resin" or "synthetic resin."

Additional Notes:
Chinese (traditional) ..... 一種固態或半固態的有機物質,通常取自植物分泌物,但有時取自昆蟲或以合成材料製成。可溶於有機溶劑,但不溶於水,一般用於亮光漆、印墨和膠料。與「樹膠」不同之處在於樹脂不溶於水。 
Dutch ..... Een vaste of halfvaste organische stof die meestal wordt verkregen uit plantenuitscheidingen maar soms ook van insekten of synthetisch materiaal; het is oplosbaar in organische oplosmiddelen maar niet in water en wordt doorgaans gebruikt in vernis, drukinkt en stijfsel. 
Spanish ..... Sustancia orgánica sólida o semisólida que se obtiene habitualmente de la secreción de una planta, pero también de insectos o a partir de material sintético. Es soluble en solventes orgánicos pero no en agua, y se utiliza habitualmente en barnices, tinta de imprenta y cola. Se diferencia de "goma" porque no se disuelve en agua.
