| Head of a Young Woman from a Grave Naiskos (sculpture (visual work); Unknown Greek (Attic) (Greek (Attic) Artist); about 320 BCE; J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Villa (Malibu, Los Angeles...; 56.AA.19) | |
| Note: Complete life-sized head carved for insertion into the body of a figure. A flat area on the back of the head indicates that it originally was placed in a naiskos, where it rested against the back panel of the monument. The young woman's hair is parted in rows and pulled back from her face in a so-called melon hairstyle, which was introduced in the second half of the fourth century B.C.E. | |
