The Getty will pay for the lowest economy class round-trip air ticket to and from Los Angeles from your Institution or home city. The Getty will not assume responsibility for costs of multiple stops made while en route to Los Angeles or on your return trip and will not reimburse for upgrades. Any such costs will be at your own expense. For domestic and international travel, we will reimburse luggage expenses up to $100 each way upon presentation of payment receipts. A staff member from the Office of Scholars, Interns, and Professionals (OSIP) will contact you to discuss your travel arrangements.

Please note: In order to receive the reimbursement for your flight, OSIP must approve dates, time of arrival and departure, as well as the cost before you purchase the ticket.

When making plans for your travels, please read the information in the Scholar Housing section entitled, Arrival at Scholar Housing, relating to arrival dates and times.

Your spouse or partner and children are welcome to accompany you to Los Angeles, but please note that their travel costs will be at your own expense.

We strongly advise that you arrive in Los Angeles with enough U.S. currency to cover cab fare (approximately $50–$60) from LAX airport to Getty Scholar Housing in Brentwood as often taxis do not accept checks or credit cards.

Ground transportation to the airport of departure, and from any Los Angeles airport to Getty Scholar Housing, is reimbursable. Original receipts for all such costs are required. If you choose to travel to Los Angeles by car, reimbursements will be made at the rate of 54 cents per mile up to the amount the Getty would have spent on your economy airline ticket. An OSIP staff member can provide you this specified amount prior to your departure. Expenses for hotels, meals, gasoline, etc., during your travel to and from Los Angeles are not reimbursable.
