Luminous Paper: British Watercolors and Drawings
July 19–October 23
The Getty Center
See some of the Museum's most beautiful drawings—atmospheric landscapes, sensitive portraits, and dramatic architectural views—by foremost British artists, including Thomas Gainsborough, J. M. W. Turner, and William Blake. The exhibition explores how draftsmen of the 1700s and 1800s experimented with new subjects and artistic approaches and features many recent acquisitions on view for the first time. Opens Tuesday, July 19.
Continuing the celebration of British watercolor into the 21st century, a complementary installation presents three atmospheric Yorkshire landscapes captured by David Hockney in 2004.

Generations of photographers have found inspiration in the sky. The latest installment in our In Focus series explores this wide-open subject across four themes—urban skies, clouds, dark skies, and skies in color—from early views by Gustave Le Gray to recent works by Robert Adams and John Divola.
